RE: F350 Fans

First I have heard of someone complaining about the Torqueshift transmission. I have owned two trucks with the Torqueshift and it has given great service, smooth shifting and it's tow/haul strategy works very well. We have many and I mean many, heavily loaded 450 and 550's at work and I know of no transmission failures with any of them. Fantastic trucks.

RE: F350 vs. F450

If you get a chance, try out a cab chassis that has the Kelderman rear suspension fitted. Put a smile on your face. The 450 pickup has the same frame spacing as the F-350 pickup, thus allowing a bed to be installed easily.

As in, "Where's Waldo?" Seems to be fading fast. Without quality and safety, style only goes so far.

RE: 09 F-150 sway control

Those test might be meaningless to many but you have to admit that they do show quite a difference between the trucks tested. Especially to me the sway test involving the tractor trailer rig. Ford's stability system that allows braking of individual wheels coupled with the integrated brake controller is a tremendous accomplishment. Fun to watch the Toyota wag it's tail and do the jiggle.

RE: F350 vs. F450

I applaud Ford for continuously improving the SuperDuty line. If they want to upgrade the rear axles to Dana 110 and 120's that is fine with me, the more the merrier. And I thoroughly enjoy having the coil springs up front. Coming from a leaf spring front end '04 F-250 to the coil spring and wide front axle 450 I could not be happier. Much better ride and immensly tighter turning radius, a win-win situation for the owner.

RE: The 2009 Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awards

GM may have 50 cars, but honestly most are same vehicle with different unit badges. How many flavors of the same SUV or crossover? Sure seems in this current difficult economic time, GM could save a bundle by reducing duplication of models, is 4 badges on the same vehicle necessary or smart?

RE: The 2009 Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awards

Good work Ford. We have three new Fords in the family and they have all be trouble free, excellant vehicles. If you haven't sat in or driven the new 2009 F150, you will be in for a treat. If I was in the market for a 1/2ton, it would be an easy choice. Refreshing to read that an American car company is producing such excellant vehicles. My only suggestion, liven up the offering. I have seen pictures of the new Taurus in development. It looks very promising, and offer it in a station wagon. My Ford is just as reliable and well built as our Toyota and Honda. Matter of fact, the Honda has been back to the dealer more than the Ford.

RE: F350 vs. F450

My '08 450 P/U has 10 lugs per wheel, and are the 450/550 at work. 8 lug must be from quite a few years ago. I love seeing that big fat rear pumpkin of the Dana S-110, just wish a two speed version was available.

RE: F350 vs. F450

Tires on the F-450 pickup and the F-450 and F-550 cab/chassis trucks are the same, same rating. Main difference between the pickup and the cab chassis is the rear leaf springs. The pickup is tuned to be quite a bit more comfortable on the highway. If you have driven both a lot, as I have, you will quickly appreciate the F-450's ride. I have had over 5,000lbs of fifth wheel pin weight on the truck while towing 22,000lbs and I had no issue with the truck feeling overloaded. If you think you must go with a cab chassis, for the sake of your spine, look into a Kelderman air ride system.

RE: Ford Radiator Leaks recall???

Not made in China but unfortunately the sticker says, "Made in Mexico". I didn't think there was anybody left in Mexico to build anything.

RE: New Montana - zero problems

Back to the new fiver. Something to consider, I know I am. Say you buy a new rv in the fall, only get couple of chances to take it out and use it. Then you carefully clean it, winterize and cover it. Come spring and it is time to hit the road. Well, you have now lost 5-7 months of the short lived new rv warranty. Yup, the clock is ticking on that new warranty as the unit sits unused for months. On top of that, very real chance that the manufacturer of your new pride and joy may not be around for the length of the warranty. It may be shut down and the factory deserted(happened to both of the brands of fivers I have bought and they both were quality known brands). So I say, use the fiver as much as possible to expose any defects that may be covered by the warranty. Next one I will be buying in the early spring, at least I know I will get to use it for spring, summer and fall before it gets too cold.

RE: Ford Radiator Leaks recall???

There is an active recall(I guess that is what it would be since my selling dealer called me and requested I bring the truck in). Mine was built May, 2007, so a Job1 but I think it extended into later builds. Consisted of computer(s) reprogramming, installation of the vernturi "T" on the degass bottle hose and also a check for seat bracket security. I don't have the # on me but I did download the TSB information and took it with me to the dealership. Still the best running truck I have ever driven or owned. My truck no longer goes into DPF regeneration at idle and the pipes are still soot free.
I did have my radiator recalled due to a small leak on the right vertical seam. The installation of the venturi kit was done to prevent pressures from the EGR coolers(I think) from backflowing thru the degass bottle and into the radiator.

RE: Am I being scammed???(UPDATE - IT GETS BETTER!)

I fell for it once. The shop did the courtesy and even printed out the results of their computerized alignment to show me that it was needed. My time is very limited so I went ahead and said to do it. Wouldn't you know, soon my trusty little Matrix developed a liking for the median. So I took the car to the Toyota dealer and sure enough, the alignment was now off quite a bit. Now I am not what I would consider a sucker or soft in the skull, just got hit when I was in need for tires(tires were on sale) and as usual in a hurry. A sucker is born.....

Bigfoot gone?

Since we already have the mighty F-450 and been wanting to take the SeaRay with us, the idea of a nice truck camper has come up. One of the brands we have looked at are the Bigfoots. Guess we will have to scratch that one off of the list.http://rvindustrynews.com/News/tabid/16941/ctl/ArticleView/mid/38805/articleId/2394/UPDATE-No-warranty-available-for-Bigfoot-RV-dealerscustomers.aspx

RE: 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 gets rave reviews.

I am just a little bit biased but I think the Ford interior looks the best from those pictures with the Dodge close behind. Does Ford still over steering column mounted shifter and floor mounted? Nice to have that option. The new F-150 interior looks very much like the 2008+ SuperDutys, downsized to fit. The Dodge is a close second, without question it should be granted the "Most Improved Interior" Award.

RE: Let's refuel America

OPEC does not control the price of oil. Two cuts in production have not halted the price retreat. The market sets the price. World is now firmly in a recession, some nations, ours included, close to a depression. Result is that the oil producing countries are hurting real bad. Oil is their only export. No money for foods or Mercedes.

RE: 2009 Half ton pickup truck shootouts from 3 different sites

I too, am suprised that the new Dodge has not done better in the testing. I thought it was a pretty nice truck and a giant leap in interior fit, finish, looks. All these trucks are pretty nice, but the new Ford is real nice, Ford just seems to get the size of their cabs just right and their interiors seem a notch higher than other trucks.

RE: Wow, could the answer be any clearer, re GM?

Even Tesla(everybody knows of the Tesla auto company, right?) is looking for a handout, $400,000,000.00 of a handout. Hell, I am only about 10 miles from the Capital building, maybe I ought to scurry over and ask for some green, too.

RE: Carmax

I have sold a couple of cars to Carmax and bought one used and two new vehicles from them. Here is a warning, we bought a Toyota Corolla for my oldest Daughter for school, it was one of their Max Value(over a certain age, higher mileage) cars. It looked real nice inside and out, looked well cared for, Carfax provided report showed clean. However after I had driven the car about 20 toward home I heard some clunking under the rear end. I pulled off of the road and had a look. To my astonishment, once under the car it became obvious the car had been in a serious accident. I turned around and took it straight back to CarMax. They apoligized and gave me my money back, no problem with that. Just because the car is sold by Carmax, does not mean you need to let down your guards, still be careful. CarMax also sells new cars(check their website for new car dealers they have around the country). Luckily for us, they have a new Toyota dealer in the area, matter of fact the largest Toyota dealer in the country. I bought a new Camry and a Matrix from them, by far the best price I could find for great cars.
